Skilled Migration Visa Options

​What is the 189 visa

The Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa (Points-tested stream) provides a pathway for highly skilled workers to live and work permanently in Australia without requiring sponsorship from an employer, state/territory government, or family member. Here's a concise summary of the key requirements and process:

 

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must:

  1. Age: Be under 45 at the time of invitation.

  2. Occupation: Nominate an occupation from the relevant Skills List.

  3. Skills Assessment: Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant Australian authority.

  4. English Proficiency: Meet at least the "competent" English standard:

    • Valid passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or Ireland OR

    • Language test scores such as:

      • IELTS: Minimum 6 in each component.

      • TOEFL iBT: Minimum scores of 12 (listening), 13 (reading), 21 (writing), and 18 (speaking).

      • PTE Academic: Minimum 50 in each component.

      • CAE: Minimum 169 in each component.

    • Test results must be within three years of the visa application.

  5. Points Test: Score at least 65 points, considering factors like age, English skills, qualifications, and work experience.

  6. Invitation: Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and receive an invitation to apply from the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA).

 

Application Process

  1. Initial Assessment:

  3. Skills Assessment:

    • You will need to prepare and lodge your skills assessment with the designated assessing authority for your nominated occupation.

    • You will need to provide supporting documents and the required fee.

  4. Expression of Interest (EOI):

    • We will prepare and lodge your EOI, together with the required documents once you’ve obtained a positive skills assessment.

    • Your points score and ranking will determine whether you receive an invitation.

  5. Visa Application:

    • Once you receive an invitation, we will prepare and lodge your visa application with comprehensive supporting documents within the specified time frame.

    • This is a critical step and we will prepare, review, and submit your application to ensure it meets all requirements and it is decision- ready

 

Additional Notes

  • Bridging Visa: If applying from within Australia, you won’t receive a bridging visa until Step 5 (visa application) is complete.

  • Processing Times: DOHA processing times vary based on complexity and priorities. It's advisable to start the process promptly.
